How to map a departmental share drive on a Mac

Modified on Fri, 15 Jun 2018 at 11:26 AM

If you have permission to access a departmental share drive, here is how you map the drive so that you can access the shared files. If you don't have permission, have your department head email it@lesley.edu requesting that you be given access to [the name of the drive].

Mapping a share drive

1. Click Go on the Finder menu, then Connect to Server.

2. Enter the share drive address, substituting the name of the share drive in place of the word "sharename" in the server address information below, then hit the Connect button.

3. Click the Connect button when you get the message that you are attempting to connect to the server.

4. Enter your Lesley credentials (username without the @lesley.edu), select Remember this password in my keychain, and click the Connect button.

Saving the share drive link

A.  You can save the Share drive icon -  in your Dock. Just make sure that you drag it to the right of the dividing line in your dock. See below for a picture of the dividing line. Again, just make sure you drag the icon to the right of the line, but to the left of the trash.

B.  You can also save the share drive by clicking on Go in the Finder menu, then Connect to Server.

Make sure that the share drive address is showing in the Server Address: field and press the + sign to save the server as a favorite server.  If you ever get disconnected from the drive, you can click on Go, Connect to Server and then you will see the server address in Favorite Servers.
