Cleaning your computer display

Modified on Thu, 10 Nov 2016 at 10:36 AM

Flat screen monitors, also called LCDs, require special care when cleaning:

  • You can use a solution composed of 50% water and 50% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or a commercial LCD cleaning solution. DO NOT use a harsh cleaning agent such as bleach, acetone, or glass cleaner.
  • Always use a clean, soft, cotton cloth, or a special electrostatic cloth; paper towels and unsterile rags may scratch the screen.
  • Always spray the alcohol directly onto the cloth, just moistening it; spraying the fluid directly on the screen may damage the underlying electronics.
  • Always wipe the screen gently; applying excessive pressure may damage the screen.
