Kaltura's Webcam recorder runs on Adobe Flash. In order to use Kaltura on your computer, you will need to install and enable Flash in your browser. The following document will walk you through the basics.

Download or Update Adobe Flash and Enable in Browser

Having the latest update of Adobe Flash will ensure that Flash-based applications will run smoothly. Download the latest update at

Download Adobe Flash.

Once you have installed Flash, you will need to enable it in your browser. This will ensure that Flash will run smoothly within your browser. We recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox:

Google Chrome

Download Google Chrome

Enable Flash Player in Google Chrome

Mozilla Firefox

Download Mozilla Firefox

Enable Flash Player in Mozilla Firefox

Check / Update Settings

If you have installed and enabled Flash but are still experiencing difficulty using Kaltura, check your computer and Flash settings to make sure your audio and video is set up correctly.

Settings for your computer

Make sure that the correct microphone and/or webcam is selected in your computer’s sound input settings. If you can successfully record audio or video in other applications, you can skip this step.

Settings in Flash

Even if your computer’s audio settings are accurate, you might need to adjust your settings in Adobe Flash. Follow the steps below to verify and adjust them:

  1. Right click on the page. A menu will appear.
  2. Select “Settings…”
  3. Click on the image of a microphone and/or webcam.
  4. Select the correct input source.
  5. Click “close”.

If you are using Chrome, there is an extra step in the permissions process in Flash that other browsers do not. Follow these steps to make sure that secondary permission appears:

  1. Click the menu icon on the far-right side of your toolbar at the top.
  2. Click "Show advanced settings".
  3. Scroll down to "Advanced Settings".
  4. Under the "Privacy" section, click "Content Settings".
  5. In the "Media" section, select "Ask when a site requires access to your camera and microphone".

Go back into your browser and try to record with the webcam. At the top of the page, a permissions bar should appear. Click Allow.
