On Monday, January 3rd, we upgraded myLesley to the new Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation (UBN).
Introducing Ultra Base Navigation (UBN)
Ultra Base Navigation (UBN) is the next step in ensuring that we are utilizing the latest technologies that are available from Blackboard. The new layout makes myLesley/Blackboard more accessible across devices and provides a simple, consistent experience regardless of how it is accessed. Rather than navigate by tabs at the top of the page, you will use the menu on the side of the page. This is very similar to how you navigate using the Blackboard mobile app.
Please note that only the Home page and navigation is changing. There will be no changes to courses or organizations (communities).
Ready to see it in action? Watch the Blackboard UBN walkthrough video for a quick tour of the new interface.
What's new in UBN?
Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation comes with a new look as well as some new features. It includes links to new pages, such as the Activity Stream, Notifications, Messages, etc., that provide quick access to the most critical information from all your courses.
The navigation menu remains in view as you move from page to page - even when you are in a course. As you open pages, they open as layers. Close the layers to return to a previous page or the menu.
The myLesley Home Page is the go-to resource for Lesley resources, useful links, and other important content. The content will vary slightly depending on your role at the university (student, faculty, staff).
The Profile page allows you to upload a profile picture and edit notification settings. Please note that you cannot edit or update your contact information on the Profile page - you must update this information in Self-Service.
You can choose the types of notifications you receive and how they're delivered to you. You may update your notification settings on your Profile or Activity Stream. Watch the Notification Settings video for more information.
The Activity Stream shows you what's new in all of your courses and allows you to easily navigate to your content. The Activity Stream includes notifications about past due assignments, upcoming events and due dates, and other announcements and activity. You may filter or select which activities appear on the Activity Stream. Watch the Activity Stream video for more information.
Course messages are private and secure text-based communication that occurs within your course among course members. Unlike course emails, you must be logged in to a course to read and send course messages. Watch the Messages video for more information.
The Grades area shows all grading information across all of your courses.
Faculty will see a summary for each course, including which items are ready to be graded, and can begin grading from this page. Select an item's title to open it, choose a submission, and start grading.
Students will see a list of recently graded items, upcoming assignments, and overall grades for each course. Click on a course to view all graded items within that course. Students can also see newly posted grades in their Activity Stream.
Blackboard Assist features campus resources for students. Two services can be featured at the top of the page with additional services listed below in alphabetical order.
Accessing your Blackboard App on Your Mobile Device
Update how you log into your Blackboard App for Students or Blackboard Instructor App now to avoid access or authentication errors after we upgrade on January 3rd. You can do this now - you do not need to wait until January.
In order to update your app, you will need to log out of the Blackboard app, remove "Lesley University" from the school indicator, and re-search for the university.
- In the Blackboard App press the menu icon (3 parallel horizontal lines) in the upper left corner.
- Press Settings.
- Press Log Out. A pop-up will ask if you are sure you want to logout. Press Log Out.
- You will be brought to the login screen. Delete your username. Under "Welcome to Lesley University", click the Change button.
- At the Type Your School's Name prompt, enter Lesley University, and select it from the list.
- Press Web Login to login.
- You will be brought to the Lesley Login page. Enter your Lesley credentials to log in.
