A rubric is a scoring tool designed to ensure consistent and impartial grading and help students organize their efforts to meet the requirements of an assignment. You may create multiple rubrics in your course which may be assigned to different content.

Create a Rubric

To create a rubric, go to the Control Panel, select Course Tools, and select Rubrics.

This will bring you to the Rubrics area of the course. Click Create Rubric to create a new rubric.

Give your rubric a name and an (optional) description.

Enter your rubric details by editing the rubric grid. You may add additional rows and columns as needed.

Click Submit to save your rubric.

See Rubrics for more information or watch the How to Create a Rubric video tutorial below.

Associate a Rubric

Once you have created your rubrics you may associate them to assignments, test questions (essay, short answer, and file response), blogs, journals, wikis, or Discussion Board forums and threads. You may also associate a rubric to any column in the Grade CenterSee Associate a Rubric for more information or watch the Associate a Rubric tutorial video below.

Grade with Rubrics

Once you have created a rubric and associated it with an item, you may use your rubric for grading. See Grade with Rubrics for more information or watch the How to Grade Using a Rubric tutorial video below.
