By default your course menu may have some standard items, including Announcements, Course Content, Syllabus, Course Tools, etc. You may add or remove content from your course menu at any time.
Adding Items to the Course Menu
You may add different types of content to the course menu, including a content area (an area within your course where content is posted), tool link (link to a tool such as the Discussion Board or Blog), or web link (link to an external website, such as http://support.lesley.edu).
Adding a Link to a Content Area
Content Areas are places in your course where you post course content, such as items, uploaded documents, assignments, and more.
To add a new Content Area, click the Add Menu Item button at the top left corner of the course menu.
This will open a menu. Select Content Area.
Give your content area a name and check the box to make it visible to your students. Click Submit to save your changes.
Your new item will be added to the bottom of the course menu.
Adding a Tool Link
You may add a link to any of the course tools including the Discussion Board, wiki, blog, journal, and more.
To add a new Tool Link, click the Add Menu Item button at the top left corner of the course menu.
This will open a menu. Select Tool Link.
Give your link a Name and select the appropriate tool from the Type drop-down list. Check the box next to Available to Users. Click Submit to save your changes.
Adding a Web Link
You may add a link to any external website.
To add a new Web Link, click the Add Menu Item button at the top left corner of the course menu.
This will open a menu. Select Web Link.
Give your link a Name and enter the URL of the web page to which you want to link. Check the box next to Available to Users. Click Submit to save your changes.
Editing or Removing Items from the Course Menu
Select the item you wish to rename, hide, or remove and click the chevron to the right of the item..
Click the chevron to open a menu.
Hide Link will allow you to hide the link from your students. You will still be able to access the link.
Delete will remove the link (and any associated content) from the course. You will be asked to confirm deletion.
Reordering Items in the Course Menu
To move or reorder items in the course menu, hover your mouse over the item until an arrow appears on the left side. Drag the item anywhere on the menu to reorder it.
Customizing Your Course Menu Colors
To customize your course menu colors, go to your course Control Panel, select Customization, and select Teaching Style.
Here, you may select your course entry point, select your course banner, and more. To change your course menu color/style, scroll down to Select Menu Style.
Here, you can choose the course menu text and background colors. The Buttons option is not currently functional. As you make choices in the Select Menu Style section, the Preview sample menu shows what the settings will look like once submitted.
When choosing menu colors, select colors for the background and text that display a high level of contrast to ensure readability and accessibility.
