Progress Tracking

Progress Tracking allows students to keep track of what they have done in the course. Students can track their progress within a Learning Module as well as any content on the Course Content page.

Watch the Actionable Data Insights video to learn more about Progress Tracking see the tool from both an instructor and student standpoint.

Learning Module Progress

Learning Modules display a summary of a student's progress within a module. The progress bar tells the student how many items they have completed or started out of the module’s total. Completed items are in green, started items are in black, and unopened items are in gray. If the module hasn't yet been opened, there will not be a progress bar visible.

When all items in a folder or learning module are completed, the entire folder or module is automatically marked as complete.

Content Item Progress

Students can easily track their progress as they move through items on the Course Content page. This includes individual content items, assignments, discussions, entire folders, etc.

Next to each item is a circle which changes its appearance based on the student's progress:

  • Empty: The student has not yet accessed the item.
  • Partially filled: The student has opened the item or accessed it through Ally.
  • Green checkmark: The student has marked the item as complete or submitted the Assignment or Test.

Students can mark items such as documents, uploaded files, links, or Discussions as complete. Assignments and Tests are automatically marked as complete once they are submitted.

Student Progress Reports

Instructors can track student progress throughout the course, providing insight into student engagement.

You can access student progress directly from the Course Content page or from within a content item.

To access Student Progress from the Course Content page, click the More Options (...) menu and select Student Progress.

To access Student Progress from within an item, click on the Student Progress tab.

The Student Progress Report will show you the progress that students mark for the following content types:

  • Ultra Documents
  • Uploaded files
  • Links
  • Cloud documents
  • LTI content
  • Learning modules and Folders

The report also allows you to select content and view:

  • Students who have not yet opened content
  • Students who have accessed content
  • Students who have marked the content as complete

The report includes the date and time an action occurred (for example, when a student first selected content or submitted an Assignment). You can sort by student name or progress status. You can act based on this information by sending an individual or bulk message. If you send a bulk message, each student receives an individual message.
