Lesley offers peer and professional tutoring to students through the Tutoring and Academic Success unit within the Center for Student Success and Advising. We support all students enrolled in Lesley courses. Our tutors can work with students to exchange ideas, provide feedback, explore their learning style, and help them to develop new skills. Tutoring sessions can focus on course topics, long-term projects, test preparation, reading comprehension, writing, research, brainstorming, and/or time management. Central to our mission is the belief that students have diverse ways of learning related to their cognitive, experiential, and cultural backgrounds.
What We Do
- We provide support to students as they navigate their academic requirements and assist them in becoming more independent and successful learners—equipped with knowledge of their abilities—to gain a deeper educational experience.
- We offer a variety of tutoring formats to best meet students’ needs, including synchronous one-on-one tutoring in person and on Zoom, group sessions to promote collaborative learning, asynchronous tutoring via email, flexible tutoring options such as Brainfuse, and workshops offered throughout the semester.
- We support students at any point in their academic journey at Lesley. Students might be particularly interested if they: submit passing work but are not meeting their full potential; are interested in personalized feedback; want to become more efficient in completing work; are eager to improve their writing; are overwhelmed with reading material; are facing an academic challenge; and/or have a learning difference.
- We employ peer tutors from each of the four areas at Lesley—Art & Design, Education, Liberal Arts & Business, Mental Health & Well-being—to holistically support students’ learning at Lesley. Peer tutors must meet a minimum GPA and are eligible to become tutors once they have completed at least 30 undergraduate credits. Our program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association, and tutors receive training to be recognized as Level I and Level II tutors.
- We also provide professional tutoring asynchronously and synchronously to support students with their academic writing at the undergraduate and graduate levels. All Lesley students can receive professional tutoring asynchronously through our Asynchronous Online Writing Center. Graduate and doctoral students can meet with our professional tutor synchronously.
