TABLE OF CONTENTS

Accessibility Overview

VoiceThread strives to make your content accessible across many devices and on virtually any internet connection. You can access your VoiceThreads from any of the platforms below:

For details about VoiceThread’s accessibility offerings, VPAT, and overall philosophy, please visit VoiceThread Accessibility

VoiceThread Captioning

VoiceThread will automatically add captions to your audio or video slides and comments using automatic speech recognition (ASR). The captioning processes begins as soon as you save your recording and should appear in 5-10 minutes, depending on the length of your recording. Captions are created based on the audio track and the content is assumed to be in English.

For more information, see VoiceThread Captions.

Additional Accessibility Features

VoiceThread is not only designed for standard accessibility features like captioning and screen reader access, but also for universal accessibility. These features allows VoiceThread to be available to as many people as possible.

VoiceThread Mobile

VoiceThread offers an iOS and Android app for mobile devices, offering a solution for users who don't have access to a computer or who prefer to use mobile devices. See VoiceThread Mobile for more information.

Webcam

Users may use a webcam to record comments and even the central media of a slide. This allows for dynamic conversation as well as allowing ASL speakers to fully engage in the conversation.

Audio as Central Media

Using audio files as the central media allows for conversation that does not rely on visual media. This type of conversation can be helpful for visually impaired users or for speaking practice.

Text comment

Text comments are useful for deaf and hard-of-hearing users and for users who are either uncomfortable with, or unable to, use their voices to comment.

Audio and Video File Commenting

Users may record a comment using an audio or video program of their choosing and then upload that file as a comment later. This feature is useful if you want to edit the recording before uploading, or to record a comment offline and upload later.

Low Bandwidth

VoiceThread is designed to use as few bandwidth resources as possible so that it can be utilized on virtually any internet connection.
