Outside Groups Using Marran Theater

Modified on Wed, 03 May 2023 at 03:26 PM

Marran Theater is available to rent to outside groups through Lesley University's Facilities team. The use of this space includes speaking engagements, plays, musicals, and comedy acts.  Information Technology (IT) staff dedicated to supporting Labs & Classrooms can assist by providing training in the use of the technology.  The team does not provide dedicated support for outside groups.  Support for set-up, sound/lighting, or breakdown is the responsibility of the renter.  All of the existing equipment installed in the theater is to be used AS IS and cannot be changed under any circumstances. Any deposits will be forfeited in order to return the equipment to it's original state.

We will provide training sessions to outside groups to certify those who wish to use the audio visual technology in the theater. These training sessions are conducted during normal business hours: Monday-Friday, 9 AM-5 PM and last anywhere from 15-30 minutes, depending on questions.  You will need to give a list of the people attending the training. These individuals' names will be provided to public safety, prior to the event, to allow them access to the booth on the day of the show. THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES ALLOWED IN THE SOUND BOOTH. To schedule a training email it@lesley.edu with the date and time of your event. A Labs & Classrooms staff member will reply with available dates and times of the theater and the technician's schedule.

Some of the information covered is:

Groups can use the house lights through either the light board in the booth or from the presets. We will run over our default settings. THESE CANNOT BE MOVED. If light fixtures are found: moved, gelled or adjusted, they are subject to a $500 fee for our lighting vendor's service call.

The theater comes equipped with a professional Bose PA controlled by Bose's proprietary "control space" technology. The theater's microphone inputs on stage, as well as its dedicated wireless mics, are controlled by the analog mixing board in the sound booth. We will run through operation of the sound board as well as the Crestron touch panel to operate the system.

For dedicated staffed support of events for outside groups, Lesley University has partnered with SmartSource. SmartSource provides fee-based support for sound and lighting, and can provide equipment beyond what is included in the room.

Information Technology has a number of useful technology items available for borrowing.  Groups can borrow gear with the assistance of a Lesley sponsor. Only Lesley University employees can log into 25Live to book their location and check out items using their Lesley email address and password. The Lesley University employee takes full responsibility for the equipment.  There is a week long reservation limit for reservations. Groups using Lesley spaces will need to check in with IT to get a new reservation, or to renew their existing equipment reservation.
