If you're a first-time borrower of a Federal Direct Loan, you're required to complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling (also called an Entrance Interview), which explains the terms and conditions of your loan as well as your rights and responsibilities as a borrower. The entrance interview takes about 20 minutes to complete online at The U.S. Department of Education's website.
