How are time zones determined in Blackboard Ultra?
The time zone is set automatically by data from your computer/device and your internet browser. In your Ultra course, this means that the due dates, visibility dates, and calendar items are specific to your time zone.
The following table outlines some common scenarios related to due dates and time zones.
Scenario | What the instructor sees | What students in Massachusetts (Eastern Time) see | What students in California (Pacific Time) see |
---|---|---|---|
An instructor is based in Cambridge, MA and sets the following due date: 12/6/24, 11:59 PM ET. | Due Date: 12/6/24, 11:59 PM ET | Due Date: 12/6/24, 11:59 PM ET | Due Date: 12/6/24, 8:59 PM PT |
An instructor is based in San Francisco, CA and sets the following due date: 12/6/24, 11:59 PM PT. | Due Date: 12/6/24, 11:59 PM PT | Due Date: 12/7/24, 2:59 AM ET | Due Date: 12/6/24, 11:59 PM PT |
An instructor is based in San Francisco, CA but all of their students are located in Cambridge, MA. In order for the students to see a due date of 12/6/24, 11:59 PM, the instructor sets the following due date: 12/6/24, 8:59 PM PT | Due Date: 12/6/24, 8:59 PM PT | Due Date: 12/6/24, 11:59 PM ET | Due Date: 12/6/24, 8:59 PM PT |
Why am I seeing a different due date/time than my instructor and/or classmates?
Check your date and time settings. If you are in a different time zone than your classmates (even just while traveling), your device will typically update accordingly.
How do I change my time zone?
On most computers and mobile devices, your time zone is set automatically. However, you can manually change your time zone in your settings.
- How to set your time and time zone (Windows 10 and Windows 11)
- Change the time or time zone on your Apple device (Mac, iPhone, iPad)
- Set time, date & time zone (Android)
