How to make changes to a completed assignment on Tevera

Overview
The Make Changes button is designed to allow students to resubmit assignments, or to change them from being complete back to being in process, so they can make updates and resubmit if needed. In some cases (described below) the student will need to ask permission to make changes to an assignment, and in other cases, they can make changes on their own.
Here are the rules surrounding this feature:
Setup in Assignment Builder:
For the "Make Changes" option to appear on an assignment for your student, there are two requirements:
- The assignment must be About the student/assignee AND Completed by the student/assignee. These are specific settings within each assignment.
- Also, the "Allow student resubmission" checkbox must be selected. The system defaults this field so it is selected for all assignments that are About and Completed by the student/assignee. So you would only want to de-select this option for assignments that the student should never be allowed to resubmit.
In the Assignments Workspace, for Students:
In the Assignments Workspace, the "Make Changes" button will appear as an option to students only after they have first submitted the assignment. Then,
If the class is still in session:
- If no other users have interacted with the assignment (they haven't reviewed, signed or approved it), the student will:
- Click Make Changes.
- The status on the assignment will change to "In Process".
- And the student will be allowed to modify the assignment and resubmit it when they are ready.
- If other users have reviewed, signed or approved the assignment, the student will:
- Click Make Changes.
- Click "Yes" on the following warning message:
- Complete the "Request re-submission" form (below) in which they select the recipient of the request (usually the faculty that supervises the class) and enter the reason they are making the request.
- If the faculty member approves the request, the student will be notified, the assignment will return to a status of "In Process", and any signatures on the assignment will be removed so the student can make changes and resubmit.
If the class is not in session (the current date is after the class Stop Date).
- For Offline Assignments, the student can no longer use the Make Changes feature.
- For all other assignment types, the student will complete the "Request re-submission" process described above.
For Faculty and Administrators:
When students request to resubmit an assignment, the recipients (limited to faculty and admin staff) can either respond through the message in the Comms Hub, OR they respond from the assignments grid itself.
To respond from the Comms Hub:
- The recipient will receive a message asking them to Unlock the student's assignment.
- Inside the message, click the attachment under Related Records/Documents.
- In the window that opens, you will see the student's request.
- Enter a message in the Reply field (this is optional).
- Click Approve or Reject.
To respond from the Assignment Grid
- Look for the red triangle icon in the assignment grid. This is a signal that a student has asked to make changes to the given assignment.
- Click on the assignment status.
- Then click the "open" button in the assignment tile.
- The system will open the assignment and you will see the student's request.
- Enter a message in the Reply field (this is optional).
- Click Approve or Reject.
FAQs
- How do I turn this feature off for a specific assignment? Go to the Class => Assignments Tab. Open the Assignment. Remove the "check" from "Allow student resubmission".
- The Make Changes button isn't appearing on one of my student's assignments. Why not? The feature only appears on assignments that are About and Completed by the "Student/Assignee". Also, the feature does not appear after the class end date for Offline assignment types.
