TABLE OF CONTENTS

About the Integration

The VoiceThread LTI allows you to use VoiceThread directly within your course. You can link to your VoiceThread course view, an individual VoiceThread, the main VT Home page, or create a gradable VoiceThread assignment all from within your course.

Create a VoiceThread Activity

The first step in using the VoiceThread integration is to create the VoiceThread activity in myLesley/Blackboard. To begin,  Locate the place in your course where you would like to insert your VoiceThread activity.

Original Course View

At the top of the page, click Build Content to open a menu. Then select VoiceThread.

You will then be prompted to choose an activity type:

  • Assignment Builder
  • Individual VoiceThread
  • Course View
  • VT Home Page

Select your activity type and click Continue.

Ultra Course View

Go to the location in your Course Content where you wish to add content, click the plus sign to open the menu and select Content Market.

This will bring up a list of all current integrations. Select VoiceThread.

You will then be prompted to choose an activity type:

  • Assignment Builder
  • Individual VoiceThread
  • Course View
  • VT Home Page

Select your activity type and click Continue.

Creating Non-Graded VoiceThread Activities

The VoiceThread/Backboard integration offers three types of non-graded options. These do not tie in to the myLesley Grade Center and do not require you to enter a grade.

Individual VoiceThread

The Individual VoiceThread option allows you to display any VoiceThread that you have created. When students click on the link, they’ll see just this one VoiceThread that you have selected.

This is a good option when you want students to view just one single VoiceThread or have a class VoiceThread discussion on a single VoiceThread.

Course View

The Course View option allows you to display the collection of VoiceThreads that have been shared with your course group. Anything that has not yet been explicitly shared with your course will not appear here.

This is a good option when you want to share a collection of VoiceThreads with your students, including student-created VoiceThreads or projects.

VT Home Page

The VT Home Page option creates a portal to the VoiceThread Home Page. It will display all of a student’s VoiceThread content in a single view. This includes all VoiceThreads and all courses that belong to them.

This option is useful if you want to create a simple portal into VoiceThread without directing students to any specific content. It replaces adding a link to http://lesley.voicethread.com.

Creating Graded VoiceThread Assignments

VoiceThread assignments allow you to create different types of VoiceThread assignments right in myLesley/Blackboard. These assignments tie in to the myLesley Grade Center.

Assignment: Create a VoiceThread

The Create assignment requires students to create a their own VoiceThread. Students will upload the slides, record comments, and submit the VoiceThread for grading. The instructor can also allow students to see their classmates’ submissions later so they can engage in peer review and conversation. This type of assignment is great for presentations, demonstration of a skill.

The Create Assignment video tutorial will walk you through setting up your assignment.

Assignment: Comment on a VoiceThread

The Comment assignment requires students to post comments on a VoiceThread that the instructor has created. The instructor can decide whether or not students can see each other's comments. This type of assignment is great for discussions, language practice, quizzes, and more.

The Comment Assignment video tutorial will walk you through setting up your assignment.

Assignment: Watch a VoiceThread

The Watch assignment requires students to watch a VoiceThread in full. This type of assignment is great for lectures and training.

Finalize Your Setup

Once you have created your VoiceThread activity you will need to finalize your setup. This is where you will change your link name and assign points and a due date for a graded activity.

Go back to your course content to finalize your setup. You may need to refresh your browser in order to see your newly created link to your VoiceThread activity. By default, your activity will be named LTI Link.

Original Course View

Click on the chevron to open a menu. Select Edit.

This will open the editing options. Here you can rename the link to your VoiceThread activity, change the visibility status, and add grading information (due date, points, etc.) for graded activities.

Ultra Course View

Click on the Options Menu (three dots) on the right side of the page and select Edit.

Here you can rename the link to your VoiceThread activity, change the visibility status, and add grading information (due date, points, etc.) for graded activities.

Grading VoiceThread Assignments

To grade your students’ VoiceThread assignments, just return to the assignment you have set up already. This will bring you to the grading interface where you can see who has submitted their assignments, enter grades, remind students to submit, edit/change grades, and edit the assignment.

The Grading Assignments video tutorial will walk you through grading your VoiceThread assignments.

Students can participate in VoiceThread assignments without ever leaving myLesley. Go to Participating in VoiceThread Activities (Students).
