Immunization Inquiries

All Students can contact The Lesley Student Health Service with any questions related to immunization requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What if I can’t access my medical records?

If you know you have been previously immunized, but cannot access your medical records, you can have a serological blood test done (for all but Tdap) to confirm immunity. These tests are widely available at your doctor’s office, urgent care providers, and medical laboratories (ex. Quest Labs).

What if I need to be immunized but can't get an appointment with my doctor's office right away?

You can check online for a pharmacy such as CVS or Walgreens in your area that would provide immunization services for the vaccine(s) that you need.

(Note: For insurance coverage related questions, we suggest that you first check with your insurance company to learn if they have restrictions on where the vaccine(s) can be administered.)

What if I don't have enough time to receive all the shots in a state-mandated vaccine series?

For students who need to start the MMR, Varicella, and/or Hepatitis B vaccine series, as long as you have started the vaccine series and your dosage sequence is current, then your immunization record at Lesley will be considered current until the date of the next vaccine dose.

What if my TB risk assessment is positive?

If you answer yes to any of the TB risk assessment questions, you must have your health care provider complete the clinical assessment form (found on the medical portal) which will include testing for TB (TB screening test). We accept the following TB screening tests: Quantiferon TB Gold or T-SPOT TB serological (blood) tests—preferred, and the PPD (skin) test. If your TB screening test result is positive, you will need a chest x- ray a medical evaluation by a medical provider (doctor or nurse practitioner). Upload your clinical assessment form, the results of your TB test and chest x-ray (if applicable) into the medical portal.

Where can I learn more about Lesley's COVID-19 protocols?

For information on Lesley’s COVID-19 Testing Requirements, please see the following page for the most current information: Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Information | Lesley University. Email SHS@Lesley.edu with any questions. Please note that the COVID-19 protocols may change as public health conditions change.

What if I would like to apply for medical or religious exemption from immunization?

Please complete the medical or religious exemption request form in the student medical portal (https://lesley.medicatconnect.com). All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and you will be notified of the decision.

Respiratory Illness Policies and Protocols

Keep Lesley Healthy - Lesley University’s Policies and Protocols for Respiratory Illness including Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19):

Respiratory illness including COVID-19, can be infectious and the following policies and protocols are developed to keep our community safe. Thank you for following these protocols. If you have any questions, please contact COVID_Update@lesley.edu

Vaccination Policies

Lesley strongly encourages community members to

  • receive the annual influenza vaccine (available in the Fall), and
  • be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations based on their personal risk assessment. Please consult the CDC website or your physician for your personal risk assessment.

Lesley no longer requires COVID vaccination in order to come to campus.

Face Masks

  • A well-fitting face mask should be worn if you have symptoms of a respiratory illness including COVID-19.
  • Anyone who wishes to wear a mask otherwise, should feel free to do so in any setting.
  • Faculty or staff who wishes for others to wear a mask in their classrooms or office spaces should feel free to require that.
  • It is important to respect the individual choices our community members make regarding personal health decisions.
  • Face masks are available at Public Safety.

If You Have Symptoms of a Respiratory Illness including COVID-19

1. Immediately notify your manager

2. Contact your doctor for guidance.

3. Wear a well-fitting mask while around others.

4. Isolate in your home and do not come to campus:

  • Students who feel sick must be in immediate and regular communication with their advisors and faculty members to discuss alternate plans.
  • Residential students may also contact the Student Health Service for additional advice and evaluation.
  • Commuter students should contact their primary care providers for additional advice.

If you are a residential student with a respiratory illness

  • Immediately notify Student Health Service (SHS@Lesleyedu) and the Office of Residence Life.
  • Consult your physician or other healthcare provider.
  • Please isolate at home off campus if feasible. If this is not possible, remain in your assigned living space and follow the CDC guidance for isolation.
  • Maintain isolation until your symptoms are improving and you’re without fever for at least 24 hours off fever reducing medications.
  • You will be able to leave your room with a mask to pick up food from the dining hall to take back to your room and to seek medical assistance.
  • If you have a roommate, as you would anytime you or your roommate might become ill, be considerate – let them get rest and sleep, and do your best to minimize disturbances.
  • Wear a well-fitting mask when around others indoors or outdoors during your isolation period and for five days after the isolation period. Note that the isolation period is the time it takes for your symptoms to improve.
  • Notify your advisor and instructors (for students) or supervisor (for employees) that you will be unable to come to class for a period of time.

Residential Students Whose Roommates Have a respiratory illness including COVID-19

If you are a residential student and your roommate has a respiratory illness and is isolating in the residence hall room, wear a well-fitting mask, and contact the Student Health Service or the Office of Residence Life if you have any questions.  Follow the CDC recommendations for prevention: (https://www.cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/prevention/precautions-when-sick.html)

When to Remain Off Campus

Please do not come to campus if you:

  • Have symptoms of a respiratory illness or have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the common cold, or flu.

  • Are a caretaker for a household member with COVID-19.

  • Follow advice above for symptoms of a respiratory illness including COVID 19.

  • Employees should avail themselves of the paid sick leave benefits available to them or switch to remote working options to the extent feasible.

Norovirus

Norovirus results in a gastrointestinal illness with symptoms that might include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weakness and fever.  These symptoms usually resolve in a few days, but you may remain infectious up to 3 days after your symptoms resolve.  Norovirus is very contagious; therefore, to prevent the spread of the virus we ask that you isolate.
