How to tell if your browser is up to date

Modified on Wed, Oct 16 at 7:36 AM

Knowing the version number of the browser you are using and making sure that you are using the most up to date version can be useful in determining whether you are due for a software update, and in assisting Help Desk technicians to troubleshoot browser issues on your computer. Keeping your browser up to date is also a factor in maintaining computer security.

Windows

Firefox, Edge and Chrome

Firefox

  1. Click on the Settings icon in the upper right-hand side of the window.Screenshot of Firefox settings icon

  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Scroll down to About Microsoft Edge.

Please note: You can't choose to update Edge from the browser. For security purposes, Edge is tied directly to Windows settings and is updated automatically as long as you are running Windows updates automatically.

Chrome

1. Click on the Customize and control Google Chrome icon.

  • Go to Safari > About Safari
  • Go to Firefox > About Firefox
  • Go to Chrome> About Google Chrome
  • The version number is highlighted in the picture below:
