At Lesley, a Chosen Name is defined as the name an individual chooses, other than their legal name, to better reflect how they identify. It's also a name chosen by an individual to align with their sense of self.
If you prefer to use a name that's different from your legal name, you can choose your preferred name using Lesley's Self-Service portal. It will appear on:
- Your Lesley ID Card
- Blackboard/myLesley
- Course rosters
- Your Outlook email display name (not your username)
To add a chosen name:
- Log in to Self-Service.
- From the left sidebar, select "User Options" and then "User Profile."
- Select "Edit Personal Identity" under the "About You" section.
The following page will display:
If you decide to not provide a Chosen Name, we'll default to using your legal name (first, middle, and/or last). Your legal name appears in your student records (transcript, financial aid, etc.). Chosen Middle Name is an optional field - It will remain blank if you don't enter a name. If you chose a first name but leave the last name blank, we'll use your legal last name.
